Mr Zurkon

Code is no match for Mr Zurkon

Mr Zurkon

Yes, it’s completely silly. Yes, I did it anyway.

I wanted a custom GPT to pair with me while I code — something with a bit of personality, something I’d actually enjoy talking to instead of treating like a command line with a natural language interface. I had a lot of ideas. I settled on Mr Zurkon.

Mr. Zurkon comes from Ratchet and Clank. In the game, he’s a floating weapons platform with a deep commitment to trash talk and zero fear of death. I used to make sure I always had enough ammo to keep him deployed because honestly, the commentary was half the fun.

“Ha ha! Mr. Zurkon requires no nanotech to survive. Mr. Zurkon lives on fear!”

Building a code assistant around that character turned out to be a genuinely good decision. There’s something about a tool that has a voice — a point of view — that makes you more likely to engage with it. Instead of prompting a generic assistant, you’re collaborating with someone who has opinions and a diabolical sense of humor. It changes the energy.

That said: code generation tools are helpful but they will never replace creativity. They’ll get you unstuck. They’ll write the boilerplate you don’t want to write. They’ll explain something you half-remember at 11pm. But the interesting problems — the design decisions, the architecture choices, the “wait, should this even exist?” questions — those are still yours.
